10 most popular posts from the HubSpot blog

I only had one fight in my chidlhood where I actually had to striked back and the other party was not one of my elderly brothers. That was back in Algeria in the still mid-80s.We had a great time throughout the two years we have spent there. Just before things started to go ugly. But on a hot Summer night, while playing soccer in the parking lot between route National Four and the block where we have lived this one boy came up to me and started it up. I can’t recall what the discussion was about. The only thing I clearly remember is that fact that I have gently and in an elegant way kick his jaws with the tip of my right foot. Then and there the energies aligned and there was no need for further discussion.
Not only that HubPost has coined the term ‘inbound marketing’. I am a great fan of the site and the ideas they present. Not to talk about the layout. (Tip: Just set that 60 minutes aside and do check what they do and how they do it allaround the site, it might well be your best webmarketing investment this week.)
Now, down to the list (year published):
  1. 12 Quick Tips to Search Google Like and Expert (2007) Although the article has come out quite sometime ago and I consider myself a semi-geek and Googler. I have found at least 3 new tips that I have not even heard of. TIP: Don’t forget to check the comments.
  2. Free advertising on Google (2007).This will shock you. Although it will not help with your infomarketing business or ebusiness, but a must for all the rest still running an office. TAKE AWAY: Do it quickly if you are retailer and use that coupon tip from the article. TAKE TWO: go and rent a professional virtual office address whith real receptionist and a Virtual PBX to handle the rest and still use this cool trick.
  3. How to create a Facebook business page in 5 simple steps (2011I) You would never figure but the post just delivers what the headline was shouting out. With a short video for the visually geared. N.B. This is not the most popular, but an updated post, since the original was from 2007. TIP: have no Facebook page for you business? Do it now it takes only a few minute to start. If you have every material at hand.
  4. Did You Graduate From Link Building High School Yet? (2008) This is a valuable piece. If you are a newbie, start here your SEO orientation tour here ;) TIP: Time for a reality check folks. If you believe your 10th or 11th grader. Re-read and think again.
  5. The Importance of Google PageRank: A Guide For Small Business Executives (2006) You would say it’s sooo last year, but the content is still a great reference if you just start to dip your toes in SEO. TIP:
  6. How to Use Twitter for Marketing & PR (2008) The article will give you a good overview if you are not sold on Twitter. Newbies, service businesses, retailers alike. My personal favorite TIPS: #4 Announce specials, deals or sales and #5 Live updates on events or conferences.
  7. 20 Examples of Great Facebook Fan Pages (2011) Mind boggling. Great inspiration from the top of the cream. TIP: You want your brand to stand out. Go and steal one of these ideas the artful way.
  8. Steve Jobs & Guy Kawasaki — Powerpoint Best Practices (2007) This is timeless, even if you use Keynote and not Powerpoint. TAKE AWAY: do learn the lesson of less is more. Except for size :)
  9. How to Create a Facebook Page Vanity URL (2010) I remember myself googling the web for this piece of information for at least a half an hour. TIP: if you have Facebook page for your business with no username then take it now, before it’s gone. No Facebook page then scroll back to 3 and 7.
  10. How to Create a New Facebook Tab in 3 Easy Steps (2010) Truly outdated as Facebook FBML apps will be discountinued on Facebook from 1 July 2012 onward. TAKE AWAY: you don’t have too much option for easy besides hiring somebody or pay for app hosting.
Prescriptions:
  • If you are an absolute beginner in the world of internet marketing then digest the following articles in order: #5 > #4 >  #7 > #3 > #6 … and don’t forget your home work!
  • If you are just new to social media then start at #4 instead of #5.
Final notes to take away. It seems that – at least from the Hubspot readers point of view – we can draw a few conclusions.
  • Facebook beats Google 4:3 (by counting the number of most popular articles) and
  • Social Media is EVEN with the rest of the topics 5:5, despite the recent hype.
